Learn to kayak with our beginners courses, starting April 2025.
We meet in Hertford meet every Sunday at 9:30am to be on the water by 10:00am.
Sessions are open to all members and there are always coaches present. The sessions end at around 12:30pm and members can enjoy a cup of tea / coffee / chat in the clubhouse afterwards.
Additionally, peer-paddlers (adults who have progressed to a level where they can paddle without a coach) meet for ad-hoc weekday evening paddles during the summer months.
We arrange trips throughout the year which will challenge your abilities - these typically include residential white water trips, flat water trips that may involve camping, and day trips to other nearby rivers for a change of scenery.
Touring, or flat water kayaking, is for those who like a tranquil paddle on rivers and open water - including lakes and estuaries. Members can hone their skills on the 'Hertford Loop' while taking in the beautiful scenery.
Hertford offers access to a number of local weirs which are perfect for developing moving water skills. Our trips to Northampton Active (Nene Valley White Water Centre) offer opportunities to develop skills to the next level.
The club is lucky enough to be within close proximity to The Lee Valley White Water Centre, where many of our members get together to paddle the Legacy and Olympic courses.
We also offer residential trips, to the Usk, Tryweryn, Dart and Dee, to name a few.
Canoes (also known as Canadian or open canoes) are another great way to get out on to lakes and rivers.Â
The Club has a number of canoes for members to hire, suitable for individuals or pairs paddling tandem.
If you have never paddled a canoe before and are interested in receiving coaching, please see the coaching section for more information.
