Herts Canoe club was started back in the 70's by George Cherry, who was responsible for training some of the top athletes in the sport at the time. The Club has evolved over the years with the turnaround of new volunteers bringing fresh ideas to the club's committee. The one constant has always been to bring paddlesports to the local area in a way that is accessible to everyone by keeping the costs low and the adrenaline as high as one wishes for.
The club's location did not happen by chance - we are one of only a few clubs in the home counties to have multiple river features on our door step. In fact, our area also attracts other clubs from further afield to it due to it lending itself perfectly to the sport. To add to this we also have a high number of coaches at all levels of kayaking / canoeing, this gives members the oppertunity to go as far as they choose to in the sport at a pace they that's right for them.
Most of all we are a friendly club that welcomes anyone from 11 years upwards. We are proud of the diversity within our club.
We are proud to be an affilated club of British Canoeing which helps us keep up to date with safegaurding and health and safety policy within the sport.
Please be aware that paddlers are required to have an "on the water" licence provided by british canoeing to use the rivers and canals (similar to a fishing licence), however when paddling with a club* this is already covered within your membership.
*The club "on the water" licence can only be used when participating in club related activities.
